Hi, I’m Rick Cognata!

I’m the creator of Legacy of a Grandpa! I help modern grandparents bridge the generational gap, embrace change, and build deeper connections with their families. Through relatable content, practical strategies, and meaningful conversations, I empower grandparents to understand today’s parenting dynamics, foster stronger bonds with their grandkids, and leave a lasting legacy.

In my full time career, I’m a leadership developer specializing in building strong partnerships and leadership initiatives, I bring a unique perspective that blends wisdom, empathy, and humor. My goal is to help grandparents adapt, connect, and thrive in today’s world-one conversation at a time.

Introducing My Book: Connecting Across Generations

This book is for every grandparent who wants more than memories. It’s for those who want deep, meaningful conversations, lasting traditions, and a legacy that truly matters.

In 55 short chapters, I share real-life stories, gentle wisdom, and everyday moments that help grandparents show up with intention and build lasting family connections. Each chapter ends with a “Try This Today” practice and a reflection question, making this book something you don’t just read — you live.

Let’s Work Together

There are some questions we don’t think to ask until it’s too late. Not because we don’t care, but because life moves fast, families get busy, and we assume there will always be more time.

As I’ve been going through this process with Remento, I keep thinking about the stories I wish I had asked my own parents to tell me.

Not the big dramatic stories, the ones that explain who they were before they were Mom, Dad, Grandma, or Grandpa.

These five questions are a good place to start.

Ask them. Record them. Save them somehow because someday, someone in your family may be grateful you did.

Our world is filled with distractions compared to when we grew up. I know all of you remember Atari and if I’m being honest, I was addicted lol! Have you ever just laughed and said “handover the controller“ and played games with your grandchildren or do you not go there and wish they were never a thing?

This was a long time coming and I’m so excited to finally be in Barnes & Noble. So many of you have been asking when my next book signing is so if you’re near Rochester, it’s the Pittsford location at.3349 Monroe Ave Pittsford NY 14534. Would love to meet you in person!

It was just a kite. No big deal to you and I, but when it’s the first time you saw it takeoff into the sky, you were mesmerized. We forget what it’s like to be that age, to have children that age, and now we get to do it ALL OVER AGAIN!!! Slow down and take advantage of these times 😢

My heart still breaks, thinking how I probably upset him because there’s been times I’ve taken both of them with me. This particular time, it happened so fast, and I didn’t realize how his little eyes were on me. As grandparents, we underestimate the influence we have on our grandchildren! Don’t make the same mistake I did!

Please don’t just roll your eyes and say you can’t do this! I know a lot of you are probably a little older and maybe past this, but if you cannot do the entire thing, at least practice balancing on one foot. As we age, our balance gets worse and worse. I’ve seen a lot of people older than me fall and never recover.

it’s never too late to start! Let me know what you think!

I don’t say yes to many partnerships, but this one hit me personally.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how many stories quietly disappear over time. Not because they weren’t important… but because nobody ever captured them.

The stories about childhood.
Young love.
Hard seasons.
Big mistakes.
Lessons learned.
Family traditions.

Even the sound of someone’s voice.

That’s what drew me to Remento. It gave me a simple way to start preserving some of those memories in my own voice for my children and grandchildren someday.

This is just the beginning of the journey, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a meaningful one.

Start asking questions while you still can!
